Finding a Niche...
This is probably the most important thing to do to before you start to make money online. Often, people choose one topic after another without working on one thing properly. I also made this mistake when I started my quest for online riches. I would choose one topic, make a small website or blog. Then I would promote that site for some time.
If I do not see any result, I would just leave it. Sometimes, I would leave some niche even if it gave results. This was because I was not interested in that area. So I would just forget about it.
I wasted a lot of time in the beginning like this. I have learnt from those mistakes. Now I think that it would have been better if I chose a topic that I was interested in.

How can you avoid it?
Take a notebook and list all the topics you are interested in. Make a list of your hobbies, your skills, things you are passionate about etc. Now, from those topics, round off only those topics that you think you can make a good website about. You need a topic, a website which you are willing to maintain even after a year from now. Think long term. That is the key to making a good website.
